DOGS THAT LOOK LIKE DOGS... BUT ARE NOT

Thirty one years have come and gone, since I started my professional journey with dogs. Many faces and many places have changed in those 31 years. The biggest change first came in human form...it always does. Now it is clearly in dog form as well. The registries are full of dogs that once resembled the breeds they were papered to be. Now the resemblance is also fading. We are a funny lot us humans. Easily led and swayed by public opinion. We worked young pups today. Amazing in their response and desire. It took many years to produce those pups that arrive just after 63 days. They too will pass through the portal of ignorance if not guarded faithfully. I read that Bob Hope passed away today, after a life of 100 years. A long time. Yet a short time. What I wonder will take place when all those that touched that generation are also gone. We too are producing men who look like men...but are not. What will become of the dogs and of man? After 31 years you would think I would have some hope for these lines. I do not. Good dogs follow good people. Good people stand up for what they believe in. Christ did. I am I suppose with age getting tired of making passes at the masses, but somebody has too. This tree of life we stand under needs a shaking, or soon it will bare no fruits. We had one of our dogs a fairly young dog, come in 9th among 49 dogs in a Police Dog Trial. The handler was fairly inexperienced and said he would of placed higher except he made some handling moves that caused his 9th place. That should never of happened.NO young handler should beat out 40 of the top dogs in any Police Dog Trial. We are slipping. Am I proud of that dog and handler? Yes,very much so,but it never should of happened. Some would say Mike..shut up your dog won!!!!! Yet I say..why? It should not with such a new team and young handler be possible. Is he a good handler? Yes. Is he a good dog? Yes. Yet the other handlers many of which competed before should show something.............they do. Attitude, genetics and things that look like things they are not.
