For years I have heard it said the very best Malinois are KNPV dogs. Others would say the best are ring dogs. All would agree the only place to get one was from overseas. They would disagree on the country. Some would say Belgium, others Holland others France. Law Enforcement in many cases has forbidden their use as street dogs. They state they are uncontrollable biters. Flighty, nervous and hard to handle. This makes one think: Where Are All These Great Malinois?
If on one hand these sports are saying they produce such great dogs....WHERE ARE THEY? Why is the Law Enforcement community shunning them? The reason is that sport dogs are not Working Dogs. They do NOT represent the Working Malinois. The Malinois is calm, confident, steady of nerve and would not track, bite nor jump over you unless he was told to or had to to assist his handler. The big picture is clearly seen. The majority of these sports show the crowd pleasing bite work. In fact they are BITE...BITE...BITE...and obedience that is almost robotic. Not resembling real life in the least. The majority of those involved in the importing of these dogs fill peoples heads with the words titles and awards and certifications. This being true they are all representing a field of competition...not a field of honor.
There is and I challenge anyone to show me where it is anything that stands up from these groomed fields to the street. In fact it works against it, on every level. One thing the sport world has done to this GREAT BREED is have them all painted with the same brush. The fact is that sport blood has polluted the Working blood for years. You can not breed this poor blood to produce Working dogs. We have placed a young Dutch Shepherds Dog pup with a Dept. in Indiana. At 12 weeks of it is tracking, deploying and doing multiple attacker work. The pup is 12 weeks of age. We have this pup on tape. We have a litter of pups with another person they are indicating on scent at 12 weeks of age. We do not print the things we do.... We like to keep the Work away from the spoilers. If you want to leave your security to those who train in short pants and white rubber boots or sandals...you will get exactly what you pay for.One well known person in the sport world has stated one in every few thousand females are good trackers...he has since changed his statement to they are good trackers but you need a male with you for protection. This is again a very stupid statement made by a person that just does not know dogs. I have proven with female dogs under a year of age that they can do all a male can do and do it better. It is time that the world at large realizes sport is sport and Work is Work.
The once great and noble German Dogs are no longer so great. Let us save the
Malinois from the ignorance of those who claim to know so much and yet show their stupidity
each time they open their mouths. I will prove to any military or law enforcement agency that
the Malinois is a stable, capable breed. They just have never seen a real Malinois.
