Dogs and Prozac

I am writing this editorial in hopes of turning on a light in what I feel is a very dark subject.
Our human nature has all too often reared its dark side to our trusting K9 friends. This time I believe we have gone too far. More and more we hear about the drug Prozax being used to treat problems in dogs.

Once again, some human has drawn a twisted comparison between human anxieties and animal drives. Humans have all too often taken their personal want or desire to extremes. No where is this so blatently displayed than in our relationship with the dog. For a specifice desired look we have crippled and mentally destroyed many noble working breeds. All for the vanity of ribbons and certificates.

It is well past the time for some one to loudly proclaim "The King Has No Clothes." Where is our sense of common decency or common sense. If we take a close look at the world we have created and still are creating, for our dogs, it is one of deception.

It is only man- kind in his foolishness, that desires to mold his dog after his own image. The dogs must remain a dog to survive; to excell he must walk on his path in his own way. Yet we continue to try to make him more humanized, thus robbing him of his natural and super natural abilities.
Only by excepting the dog for what he is, can man and dog excell as a team.
