Yes, these are the dark ages of dogdom. A time when the masses are led by a very fragile select few. They come on strong when challenged. Then when they realize they are found out they cry and squirm and really can not take the heat. During the dark ages common sense was not simply forgotten, it was outlawed. We are very much there today. What can we do? We can stop being so damn complacent. Start saying words like…why? or no…..or things like.. can you please explain that. No one wants to be the first target. That is why I have stepped up. I have heard enough. I spend my waking hours with dogs. I have done so for over 32 years now. I know about dogs. I know about pure 100% bullshit too. I know I am sick of it and I know I am not going to take it anymore. I also remember dogs. Real dogs. Boxers that could breath. Spaniels that didn’t go into a killing rage against their owners. Poodles that did not harbor that terrified bug eyed look that all life was waiting to attack them. They walked like the hunters they were bred to be. They did not pace and skip like some neurotic spun out chunk of wool. I remember when the term purebred meant something to be proud of. Not something to be aware of. A time when ability and pride meant something. Not a time when the number of ribbons could cover up shortcomings and poor breeding. We owe. We owe big time. It is time to pay up. Do you realize people are passing up once great breeds because of not only accepted but also expected health problems within that breed? They offer no remedy. They provide no solution. The pact has been made. How dare we question it. You will find very few breeds that resemble their description. Breeds like the Rottwieler are actually being outlawed in some cities. Why? The reason is they are said to be unstable and dangerous. I didn’t read that in the breed description.
The ckc is registering these outlaws under what would appear to be an incorrect breed description. Why? Ask them…they will I am sure make some answer up. If in fact, a person was to read this description put out by these self proclaimed experts and the dog mauled someone, who would be responsible? If I lie and sell you an unsafe product, certify it is safe as I described and it really hurt someone, could I be held responsible? I think I could be. I think I would be. So what’s going on in all these canine purebred descriptions, that really don’t match the dog they describe? I suppose, "needs lots of exercise" could be translated into, "will drive you, your neighbors and everyone else, nuts" as, "they run out of control spreading excrement all over". I suppose, "powerful water retriever" could be translated into, "often too crippled by displasia to walk on land should be kept in warm pool of water 8 hours a day". I suppose the words, "naturally protective" could be translated into, "run for your lives he has killed the cat and is headed this way."
Progress is often brought on by the lessons taught and learned from one generation to another.
