The Art of Tracking
Tracking is an art to man,an instinct to the dog. Success comes when both perform a single excercise. To be successful in the rain, one must track in the rain. The call for highly trained teams has never been greater than that which is now upon us. We must pre-think each start. In this manner our first step is taken with success in mind. It is far better to have one skilled team in the field than a thousand searchers that know nothing about the task. The events that have caused so much confusion and panic, must be viewed as also the profound training field it has become. It is my firmest belief that we must scrap that which we found unsuccessful in its application and put to use those things that proved worthy in great stress. Success like determination must be held with flexibility as each track creates new problems that are actually no more than a dedicated handler seeks to work out at the human end of the lead.
