PHOENIX
In November the first Phoenix Manuals regarding Law Enforcement E.R.T and S.W.A.T training exercises and drills will be
out. These manuals will describe in picture and word the manner in which to work a true Tactical Dog.
For a long time the sport world has been considered the way in which police service dogs are to be trained. This then
went into the "Tactical" world as departments wanted to make use of the dogs on entry teams. Unfortunately placing the
word "Tactical" into the equation does not change a sport dog into a Tactical dog, in much the same way sport dogs are
not police service dogs. The days when K9 Units could be run by "Sport Buddies" is over. Poor training, poor attitude
and the "Good Ole Boy" attitude, resulted in law suits, injuries and even death.
I have been damned for speaking out but I will be damned if I don't. Most days when we train, we are covered in mud and
burrs. Often we stop off to grab some lunch. On many occasions we run into several other officers and their dogs,
from three different departments who have finished training in the Niagara region. The uniforms are neat and clean.
The shoes are shinning even though it had been raining outside for several days. That may look good to the ladies in
the stop, but it's the guys in the burrs that will get it done on the street.
Working Service is the oldest form of communication known between dog and man. All sport is comprised of small parts
of it: the shiny parts.
Phoenix will put into use a K9 team that will not only be confident but also effective. These manuals are available
for purchase only to Law Enforcement and Military personnel. They are not available to the public. The exercises that
are taught are not done in the sport world for the simple reason that they are not known in the sport world.
The first manual on Tactical Training….."Entry and The Stack", can now be pre-purchased for a price of Two Hundred
dollars.
"Train to win…..not to compete".
