This morning came as have all others before it. Bright and new it would have gone unnoticed except for the fact that I looked up at Old Glory as it flew dancing in the light breeze. It was beginning to fray so I went out and took it down. After I folded the flag and placed it on the counter, I went looking for another to replace it. I could find none. For some reason I went back outside and looked at the empty mast that stood there. Without the flag it was simply a cold steel pole. It not only had no purpose, it was out of place in my yard. Then I thought about me standing there on my porch staring upward looking at the emptiness of that pole.

Many opinions have been given regarding America from the press and foreign orators. I wondered if they had ever felt what I was feeling at that moment.

My mind seemed to wander over the land that I so loved. Perhaps in many ways we in our lost state have become slightly tattered as that flag that I took down, but even so, without the freedoms of that flag the entire world would be much like that mast. An emptiness would pronounce the loss of direction and purpose in this world. For just like that mast without that flag, the world without America would be barren and lost. I returned in and again flew that flag. I will replace it today. Even tattered it gives one a strong sense of peace and purpose.

Seeing it there is much like when you were a child at night. Frightened in your bed you would hear your father cough or speak from downstairs and you just knew that all was safe and right. You could then sleep soundly. Let's keep that flag on that mast. First lets all realize its importance in flying there. Americans for America.
