ON THIS REMEMBRANCE DAY
On this upcoming day of remembering I thought I would place some of Guenthers thoughts here for all to read. I can recall the day in which we spoke on that grey November as the dried leaves blew around us and the cold winds of coming winter mingled with the ghosts of fall. His dogs had moved in position as if to be able to see him as he spoke. He was recalling his thoughts on that day as he wrote this letter to me. I know how I feel when I read it and I hope that it also moves you to thought as well. This then is an excerpt from his letter.
Have you ever wondered about feelings young one? Those emotions that move within us and as they bring thought they also bring smiles and laughter or sadness and tears. Today we sat on the battle field of Queenston and as the winds passed by our faces we were moved by the feelings of the day. Do you believe that the earth mourns young one? I do. I think that no one can deny the solemn, sacred moment when Christmas first arrives or the deep feeling of silence on an Easter morning. Yes the earth is as alive as you or I and even when time brings the doubt and discontent that it will and man has forsaken all, the earth will remember. There in that place of beauty there was once a battle. Young men dreamt fevered dreams and wept for lovers and Mothers as they grasped at life. It grows near the time to remember and the earth as the heavens move around and through us. The dogs feel that which we can not see and a sadness enters into our souls, as I ask what were the names of the fallen? I do not know the names and for this I am emptied of the pride that I carry on other days. We must remember, not to avoid that which can not be avoided for man will always seek to destroy, no we must remember that we have been given the chance to change. A gift given with no name from the sender, yet the names are as many as the leaves that blow across the cold ground on the 11th of November. If there is a comfort to be found then it is in writing to you young one.

May we all Remember those who have fought and those who are fighting and as Guenther wrote "if there is a comfort to be found then it is in writing to you". GOD Bless our troops and may HE keep them in the palm of his hand and in the tenderness of HIS heart.
