Again the news tells of a child being mauled to death by a dog. This time it was not the dreaded American Pittbull Terrier it was a cross bred dog. This dog is said to be a cross between a German Shepherds Dog and a Rottwieller and already some are calling to ban both of these breeds.

I do not intend to add to this families grief by judging or making judgment on what happened but I will say that we cannot ban away bad things from happening. At times we can guard against them. The breed ban is as stupid and foolish as those that put it in place and as cruel as those who enforce it. We can only expect lame solutions and weak response from those who have crept into political power for they are also weak.

Dogs will be dogs for the simple reason that they are dogs. They are not human as the so called animal rightists would tell us and some have even defended the actions and reactions of this dog. People are responsible for dogs and people are responsible for what their dogs do.

I suppose we could let our politicians ban every creature that offends us; they are doing such a fine job at other tasks. No, we must take responsibility and demand that our dogs be taken from those dull headed cookie feeding, clicker snapping fools and be looked upon as dogs. There will be dog's bites as long as there are dogs. There will also be people to get bit. Once we finally admit that dogs are dogs, then perhaps the time will come when we will ban the foolish act of banning things. Does not Freedom of Choice sound much better than ban and when time permits maybe we will awaken to the common sense such freedoms inspire.
